You may feel scared right now about taking a pregnancy test, or maybe you’re in shock after seeing a positive sign come up. No matter how you are feeling right now, we are here for you. You are not alone in your pregnancy journey. We can help you find your way forward and find a plan that works best for you.
How Does A Pregnancy Test Work?
Pregnancy tests look to determine if there is the presence of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG for short) in blood or urine samples. This hormone is exclusive to pregnancy and begins to build up quickly after conception.
When Should I Take A Pregnancy Test?
Though you can take a pregnancy test at different times, the Mayo Clinic shares they are “more likely to be accurate if taken after the first day of a missed period.” Waiting this time will help provide the hCG hormone to build up and be detected by a pregnancy test.
Are My Results Correct?
Home pregnancy tests are the first step if you think you’re pregnant. When done correctly, these pregnancy test results are very reliable. Inaccurate results are possible and some types of home pregnancy tests may be more likely to give false negatives.

If you test positive at our center, we also recommend getting a no-cost ultrasound to confirm your pregnancy. A pregnancy test on its own can’t reveal if a pregnancy is progressing or located properly within the uterus. Follow up with an ultrasound at our center to be sure.
